A Norwegian man was so desperate to get assistance at his local social security office that he attached himself to some dynamite, stuffed the explosives into the lining of his pants and asked workers to give him some help - or else.

The man made it quite clear that he wanted detailed help, or he would set off the explosives.

"He was carrying the dynamite in a very visible place, and the detonator was attached," said investigation leader Tore Sparby of the Stjordal police.

According to Sparby, the man was desperate after failing to receive the assistance he felt he deserved. The potential suicide bomber left the social security office after 10-15 minutes after a staff worker helped him to fill out an application form.

The man was arrested quietly at his home shortly afterwards. He has been examined by doctors and police are considering holding him in custody.

"The doctor did not consider it necessary to hospitalize the man," Sparby said.

Sparby said that the staff at the Social Security office managed to keep calm, but that the shock could set in later.

"But the Social Security office has routines for helping their employees after this kind of experience," Sparby said.
